Newbie questions
Hi.
I hope it's ok to use english in this forum? I've trying to read in the forum for quite a while using Google Translate and I'm really starting to get the feeling this is something I want to have. Feels like a project by nerds for nerds and those are usually the best
I have a Automower 310 (2016 years model). I have tried to track if it's stuck somewhere using the power metering of a z-wave dongle and my OpenHAB, but it's hard to get it more intelligent than that without some help...
Some questions before buying:
Firstly, I have wifi coverage on most of my lawn but not every corner. Is that a problem? I understand that it can't tell me it's stuck if it doesn't have wifi signal, but I guess I can build a OpenHAB rule alarming me if it's unreachable for too long. But it doesn't need to have signal all the time to keep on going, right?
I want it to connect to my wifi and if I understand things correctly this is something I set up by first connecting to the Hx's own wifi. But what happens if I later on want it to connect to another wifi? The reason I'm asking is that I'm planning a remake of my network which includes changed SSIDs. How will I be able to reach the Hx to reconfigure when it doesn't reach my old wifi?
Also breaking the guarantee may be a problem. At least if asking my wife. Guess I'll have to install the hardware when she's not at home
/Daniel

Re: Newbie questions
Hi Malmgren,
I have installed my new modul last week and I am very satisfied.
- "Firstly, I have wifi coverage on most of my lawn but not every corner. Is that a problem?"
Most of the users have changed their WLAN to have access in the whole area, but in general it is not a problem. My mower runs not longer than 145 minutes, so if he is not back in the charging station after that time, than something went wrong.
-"But it doesn't need to have signal all the time to keep on going, right?"
Corrrect
- "But what happens if I later on want it to connect to another wifi? The reason I'm asking is that I'm planning a remake of my network which includes changed SSIDs. How will I be able to reach the Hx to reconfigure when it doesn't reach my old wifi?"
There are 2 WLAN modes. Both can be enabled and disabled. Before changing your "home WLAN", you should enable the WLAN of the mower. Finally you can reset the modul (small switch on the modul) to get access again.
- "Also breaking the guarantee may be a problem. At least if asking my wife. Guess I'll have to install the hardware when she's not at home"
The modul gives you also the possibility to install a camera in the mower, maybe this increases the WAF.
Greetings
Olaf

Re: Newbie questions
Thanks for your answers!
The small switch doesn't feel like an first hand option if it requires me to dismantle the automower just to reach it
/Daniel
Ok, so both modes can be enabled simultaneously?

Nope. She is not fond of cameras either. Feels difficult to get any WAF into this project, so I think it needs to go under the radar

Re: Newbie questions
Hi Malmgren,
The robonect modul HX can use two wifi modes at the same time.
It can act as access point and as wifi client.
There is no routing possible between both modes.
To make a factory reset at the robonect modul HX.
If your Mower ask for PIN,
Typ your Mower PIN - 9999.
So you have two ways to reconfigure.
Greetings

Re: Newbie questions
Ok. No problem then.
But doesn't that mean that anybody who has physical access to my automower actually can do that and thereby take control of it?
btw, this forum lacks a "thank" button. If it had I would have clicked it. Thanks anyway

Re: Newbie questions
Having physical access enables whoever to control your mower anyway. If you consider that a person would need the PIN to operate your mower, same goes for Robonect reset as the actual PIN would be needed to calculate the Reset-PIN.

Re: Newbie questions
Oh, sorry. I'm reading more carefully now. I thought I should input 9999 as PIN to reset and that felt kinda unsafe. So I need to subtract 9999 from my ordinary PIN to get the Reset-PIN, right?bezibaerchen hat geschrieben: ↑Mi 14. Jun 2017, 08:54 Having physical access enables whoever to control your mower anyway.
